Assembly of a combustion engine and an electric generator

An IC engine has an electric generator driven directly off the crankshaft (2), with the generator casing (5) bolted to the engine block (1). An elastically deformable torque disk (6) called a flexiplate is rigidly connected to the driving end of the crankshaft and the generator rotor (4) is rigidly connected to the disk at its periphery. The rotor is supported on bearings in the generator casing. The generator is an inside- out machine and the rotor carries permanent magnets (4c). The rotor is a thin-walled cup shape. The casing has a section that is recessed (5a), carrying the rotor bearing (11) and the stator windings (9) around it. The recess is used to support a water pump (14).
