A sheet advancing over a transport plane (2) by transport roller pairs (14, 15) is rotated through an angle of 90 DEG by retaining the sheet at a point by a rubber cup (33) and coupled therewith releasing one of the transport roller pairs (15) so that only the other transport roller pair (14) exerts a torque on the sheet. By disposing the transport roller pair (14) exerting the torque somewhat downstream of the centre of rotation (33) the sheet is kept taut during rotation. <IMAGE>
