The system has a memory stage (30) for the summed recording quantity, an update stage (11) for increasing the stored value by a newly stored quantity, a comparator (51) and a display stage (52). The comparator compares the summed recording quantity with a threshold value to output a recording quantity signal. The display shows the recording quantity signal. The recording quantity corresp. to at least one ink consumption process, i.e. cleaning the ink nozzle and/or nozzle suction and ink discharge.
