Side impact protection in road vehicle

The side impact protection airbags (1) are installed in a vehicle and are deployed to protect the heads and thoracic regions of the driver and the front-seat and rear-seat passengers. There may be separate bags on either side to cover the window and upper door-panel areas on the inside of the vehicle. Alternatively a single large airbag may cover the entire side of the vehicle. The gas generators (2) for filling the airbags are mounted in the corner region at the edge of the vehicle roof.
