The terminal is a cage (1) which houses the plate (2) and is displaced by the action of the screw (3) to clamp or unclamp the conductor. The teeth (4, 5) on the plate stand proud on edge towards radial abutments on the half-shells so as to bite into the half-shells on an axis parallel to that of the screw on turning the screw. The plate may have two side pieces (6, 7) on either side pointing in opposite directions but with teeth pointing in the same direction. Alternatively, it may be a U-shape whose sides have parallel edges facing the base of the U, each with a tooth on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis and a further tooth on an edge opposite one of the other teeth but on the same arm of the U.
