The aim of the invention is to provide a lower signalling load, as far as message switching technology is concerned in relation to a method known per se, between an exchange (VMSCA) receiving a request for a connection setup, and a mobile access switching exchange (GMSCA) enabling optimized routing to occur between various networks. To achieve this, a destination address (AVMSC) which is made available by the local area network (HPLMN) of a called radio telephone subscriber (B-MS) or a destination address (AB') made available by a visited mobile switching exchange in the case of redirection, is inserted by the mobile access switching centre (GMSCA) into a message (ANM) signalling that the call connection is being completed and sent to the switching exchange (VMSCA) where it is evaluated so that the call connection can be charged. Allocation of a reference number by the original switching centre handling charging and despatch of a separate MAP message (note call destination) by the mobile access switching centre is no longer necessary. By inserting the destination address into the message which provides information on the completion of the call connection after the call connection has been set up, the technical complexity of the signalling is reduced significantly as far as switching is concerned when a call for the radio telephone subscriber is redirected.
