FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method is carried out by benzoylation of 5-phenyl-5-ethyl barbituric acid with the help of benzoyl chloride at 70-110 C. The process takes place by heating in excess of pyridine. Reaction mass is treated with solvent and product is isolated with the help of alkanol. Molar ratio of 5-phenyl-5-ethyl barbituric acid, benzoyl chloride and pyridine is 1: (1.0-1.5): (1.5-3.0), low alkanol is used as solvent. Treatment with solvent is followed by dilution with water, the process takes place till concentration of alkanol is 30-45 %. EFFECT: increased yield of product; simplified the process of its production.
