FIELD: mercury-arc devices. SUBSTANCE: mercury metering combination has mercury metering compound incorporating mercury and second metal, such as titanium, zirconium, and their mixtures, better Ti<SB>3</SB>Hg, as well as activating alloy or intermetal compound including copper, tin, and one or more metals chosen from rare earth elements, such as mesh metal. Mercury metering appliances also have such combination and, in addition, they include gettering material; method involves introduction of one of appliances into open device followed by heating it to separate mercury at temperature of 600-900 C from 10 s to 1 min upon sealing the device. EFFECT: improved accuracy of mercury metering, dispensing with containers, and eliminating unwanted escape of mercury. 30 cl, 4 dwgi
