PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry a larger amt. of a photocatalyst on a carrier having a small volume or to coat the carrier with the photocatalyst by using a porous body of silica having a specified pore diameter as the carrier. SOLUTION: A photocatalyst such as titanium dioxide or vanadium pentoxide is carried on a porous body of silica having 2-50nm pore diameter or the porous body is coated with the photocatalyst to obtain the objective photocatalytic body that purifies air by chemical decomposition and removal of components of exhaust gas in the air. The silica carrier is produced as follows; kanemite is put in an aq. soln. of an alkyltrimethylammonium(ATMA) as a surfactant, a composite with ATMA is formed by heating, the surfactant is removed and kanemite layers are cross-linked by dehydration condensation of silanol groups so as to form a stable three-dimensional. skeleton and hexagonal pores. |
