PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily define a character string such a word as a prefix that has a small number of characters as the first candidate character string by recognizing a character string consisting of a prefix and a word as a single word. SOLUTION: The KANA (Japanese syllabary) character codes of an input phonetic character string 'HIJOSHIKI DA' are stored in a phonetic input buffer area 24 of a RAM 20. The word 'JOSHIKI', 'KOKAI (open to the public)' and 'KOKAI (voyage)' having the prefix flags are retrieved excluding the prefixes contained in a basic dictionary 42. It's retrieved whether 'HIJOSHIKI' and 'MIKOKAI', i.e., the phonetic combinations of prefixes having the same prefix flags are included in the character string 'HIJOSHIKI DA'. The words composing the retrieved phonetic 'HIJOSHIKI' are defined as two words, i.e., a prefix 'HI' and a noun 'JOSHIKI'. Then a character string 'HI/JOSHIKI' is recognized as a single word of the dictionary 42 which contains a notation 'HIJOSHIKI' to the phonetic 'HIJOSHIKI'. |
