PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording material which has the adaptability to CDs, forms the characteristics having a sufficient contrast by cooperation with irradiation with an incident laser and still has the necessary optical characteristics, such as optical stability and incubation stability. SOLUTION: The recording layer of the optical recording element having a transparent substrate and the recording layer and a light reflection layer on the surface of this substrate contains a mixture composed of metallized formazane dyestuff and cyanine dyestuff. The real number part (n) of the refractive index at 780nm of the unrecorded layer exceeds 1.8 and the virtual number part (k) is <1.5. The metallized formazane dyestuff described above has a (k) value of 0.00 to 0.02.
