PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst forα-olefin polymerization capable of providing an a olefin polymer having an extremely high stereoregularity in high yield and provide a method for polymerizing theα-olefin by using the catalyst. SOLUTION: This catalyst for anα-olefin polymerization is obtained by combining (A) a solid catalyst component obtained by bringing the following components (A1), (A2) and (A3) into contact with each other with (B) an organoaluminum. The component A1 is a solid component forα-olefin polymerization consisting essentially of titanium, magnesium, a halogen and an electron donor. The component A2 is a silicon compound represented by the formula R<1> R<2> 3-m Si(OR<3> )m [R<1> is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group adjacent to silicon atom; R<2> is same or different hydrocarbon group or heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon group as R<1> ; R<3> is a hydrocarbon group; 1<=(m)<=3. The component A3 is a silicon compound represented by the formula R<4> 2 Si(OR<5> )2 (R<4> is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group adjacent to silicon atom; R<5> is a hydrocarbon group).
