PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the collection of information such as using condition information and the like, by a method wherein information useful in maintenance and the like is encoded and printed while the information is permitted to be read by an information reading device. SOLUTION: A computer system 1 is a portable computer for executing bar code reading utility, and receives the bar code from an information reading device or a bar code reading device 3, connected to a serial port 2. When a printer receives a proper command from a host computer, the printer prints a self test page as on of an internal test functions. In this case, a desired information is encoded on the self test page in the shape of a bar code. The information is encoded into a bar code and the bar code is printed whereby an using condition and constitution information, obtained from the printer and the computer system 1, are collected simply and are permitted to be inputted into a quality guarantee data base. |
