PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition for producing a carbon product excellent in handleability and dispersibility when compounding a carbon powder therewith. SOLUTION: This composition for producing a carbon product is obtained by compounding a carbonaceous aggregate with a binder and uses a carbon powder prepared by powdering the following press formed compact of the carbon black as the carbon black: the density ρ(g/cc) of the press formed compact of the carbon black is represented by ρ=8.190×10<-3> D-3.824×10<-3> L+0.516 or above and ρ=3.265×10<-3> D-3.334×10<-3> L+1.173 or below [the arithmetic mean grain diameter of the carbon black measured under an electron microscope is D(nm); the DBP oil absorption volume is L(mL/100g)].
