PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively flocculate and settle a discontinuous phase from a continuous phase and to separate an emulsion into separate recoverable phases by incorporating a silicon-contg. compd. or a silicon-contg. polymer into the emulsion including the discontinuous phase and the nonconductive continuous phase and exposing the emulsion to an electric field. SOLUTION: The flow of the emulsion with the nonconductive continuous phase as a silicone fluid and the discontinuous phase as water is directed upward from a passage 3 along a passage 4 and sent to an electric field formed by electrodes 1 and 2. The emulsion is exposed to the electric field, then the flocculated waterdrop is moved downward along a passage 5, and the silicone fluid is sent upward along a transport passage 6. The water separated from the emulsion flowing along the passage 5 is collected as a bulky water 7 and discharged along a passage 8 while maintaining the water surface 9 at a specified position below the electrodes 1 and 2. One between the two phases, preferably the continuous phase of the silicone fluid, ia allowed to contain a silicon-contg. compd. or a silicon-contg. polymer. |
