PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dilatant fluid adapted so that even when it is left in a quiescent state, the constituent inorganic particles may be kept in a state well-dispersed in the liquid. SOLUTION: This fluid comprises inorganic particles having a sphericity of 1.1 or below and a particle diameter of 0.05-5μm, a liquid held among the particles and a gelling agent. The gelling agent desirably comprises a monovalent or divalent cation, an aliphatic amine and optionally a 3-12C linear aliphatic amine. This agent has the function of imparting desirable thixotropy to the fluid and of preventing the settlement of the inorganic particles to keep the fluid in a desirable dispersed state by virtue of its ability to gel when the fluid is left in a quiescent state for a long term.
