PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing medicines, etc., by treating N-benzyl-3-pyrrolidinone with the cells, culture product or treated product of a specific microorganism and subsequently collecting the compound from the reaction liquid. SOLUTION: This method for producing optically active N-benzyl-3- pyrrolidinol comprises treating N-benzyl-3-pyrrolidinone with the cells or culture product of a microorganism or their treatments and subsequently collecting the optically active M-benzyl-3-pyrrolidinol from the reaction liquid. Therein, the microorganism comprises a microorganism belonging to the genus Depodascus, Debaryomyces, Cryptococcus, Pichia, Rhodosporidium, Trichosaporon, Micrococcus, Komagataella, Ogataea or Zygosaccharomyces. The produced optically active N-benzyl-3-pyrrolidinol is useful as an intermediate for synthesizing medicines such asβ-lactam antibiotics and dihydropyridine compounds. |
