The sheets (1) are processed in a non-stop operation in one processing direction (P). An auxiliary stack support (13) has a cantilevered end (13') gripping under the sheets. A support (18,18') for supporting the cantilevered end of the auxiliary stack support on an operating level belongs to a holder (15) moving to and fro in the processing direction. The support is displaced between a functioning position lowered to below the operating level and a position supporting the cantilevered end on the operating level.
