The backrest comprises an element (8), with a seat pad (2,14) and headrest, which is fastened to the backrest (3) of a motor vehicle seat (1). The main body (11) of the backrest element has a holder (20), formed like a headrest bracket. This is fixed into the headrest guide (4) of the vehicle seat backrest, so that main body rests on the seat backrest. The main body is formed as a mainly stable plastics component, and has an integrated holder frame, with a holder element (7) fastened to it. This has formed locking notches/noses, engaging with similar ones in the headrest guide, for fixing at different heights.
