Naphthyridine derivatives of general formula (I) and acid addition salts thereof, which exhibit an inhibitory activity against acyl-CoA cholesterol acyltransferase and therefor are useful as preventive and therapeutic agents for hyperlipemia, arteriosclerosis and diseases relate thereto: wherein A is an optionally substituted pyridine ring; X is -N(R<2>)-CO- (wherein R<2> is hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl or the like); Z is a free bond, -NH-, C1 or C2 alkylene or -CH=CH-; Y is aryl or substituted aryl; and L is alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl or the like.
