A process is disclosed for impregnating components which contain windings made of electroconductive materials with polymerisable impregnation agents which are liquid at room temperature or can be liquefied by heating and can be hardened by heating and/or exposure to energy-rich radiation. The components are impregnated at the room temperature or in a preheated state and after impregnation and before hardening are heated by an electric current flowing through the winding until the impregnation agent is partially gelled. The amount of gelled impregnation agent can be controlled by varying the heating rate, the end temperature and the heating time.
