A method of measuring the concentration of a light absorbing material and the thickness of an intercalary tissue without being affected by the thickness of the intercalary tissue existing between the surface of a living body and the objective tissue for measurement. The thickness of the intercalary tissue between the living tissue in which the light absorbing material as the measurement object mainly exists and the surface of the living body is measured by a plurality of sensors (11 to 14) having mutually different light transmission/reception distances or by a single sensor, so as to determine the change of the measuring sensitivity in each light transmission/reception distance with respect to the thickness of the intercalary tissue. The relationship between the thickness of the intercalary tissue and a correction coefficient of the measuring sensitivity is determined on the basis of the change of the measuring sensitivity, and the correction coefficient is determined by this relationship from a known light transmission/reception distance and the thickness of the intercalary tissue at the position of the measurement object. The measurement value is corrected on the basis of the correction coefficient thus determined, so that the influences of the intercalary tissue can be eliminated.
|
