The device uses at least one memory element (2) which is protected against overload, with a pair of cooperating contacts (5,6) opened by the movement of the drive element (1) before the overload temp. of the memory element is attained. Pref. the drive element is provided as a spring-biased roller around which the memory element is at least partially wound, with one of the cooperating contacts (6) directly secured to the roller.
