Indolenine dyes of formula (I) in which the ring A can be substituted, R<1> means hydrogen, optionally substituted C1-C13-alkyl, C3-C4 alkenyl, C5-C7-cycloalkyl or optionally substituted phenyl, and R<2> means optionally substituted C1-C13- alkyl, C3-C4- alkenyl, optionally substituted phenyl or optionally substituted amino. The invention also relates to a method for dying or printing synthetic materials by means of the novel dyes, as well as a method for their thermal transfer.
