A check valve cartridge (1) is fitted in a housing (10) to prevent backflow of water into the supply system from a water fitting with at least one connection, particularly a hot and cold water connection. The cartridge is forced axially against a stop by an integrated axial spring member (12) upstream of the valve seat (11). When internal pressure is increased between the shut-off and regulating valve for water supply and the check valve cartridge, the housing can be compressed to a limited extent to reduce the pressure. Preferably the spring is made in the form of a bellows which is formed in one piece with the housing and is fitted between a sealing ring (13) and the valve seat. The housing is preferably made of plastics.
