The compsns. contain >=1 monomer of formula X-R-(CH=CH2), X-R-(O-CH=CH2)n or X-R-(COOCH=CH2)n (in which R is an aliphatic, aromatic, hydroaromatic or heterocyclic gp, n is 1-4 and X is H (pref.) alkyl, acryl, alkyl or halogen) as polymerisable ingredients, and alkyl hydroperoxides and/or ketone peroxides as polymsn. initiators. 3.1 to 3% N-contg. accelerators may also be present together with other polymerisable cpds. unsatd. polyesters of thermoplastic polymers. Examples of suitable monomers are methyl styrene, divinyl benzene vinyl pyrrolidone and triallyl cyanurate. The adhesives are stable, but polymerise and set when brought between metallic or other surfaces. They are suitable for sealing and locking of threads on bolts, sealing of flanges, etc. and are cheaper than the usual acrylate and methacrylate esters.
