<p>The invention relates to a light water reactor (1), notably a boiling water reactor, comprising a reactor vessel (2), reactor core (3) and shell (4) enclosing the core (3). The shell (4) is situated inside the reactor vessel (2) and has least one inlet (5) and one outlet (6) for core coolant (7), said outlet (6) having a specific flow area (9). This flow area (9) can be adjusted by a throttling element (10) to regulate the flow rate of the core coolant. Modification of the flow area (9) permits a varying regulation of reactor output independently of the regulation of reactor output achieved by the insertion of neutron-absorbent control rods. The invention further relates to a process for the regulation of reactor output as well as for the rapid reduction in the output of a boiling water reactor (1).</p> |
