The invention relates to a combustion apparatus for waste gases. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical combustion chamber (2) and, at the lower end of this, a burner (1) through which waste gases, auxiliary fuel and combustion air are conducted into the combustion chamber. The apparatus also comprises an afterburning chamber (3) extending above the combustion chamber (2), an envelope (4) extending above the afterburning chamber (3), and means (10) for conducting afterburning air inbetween the combustion chamber and the afterburning chamber and the afterburning chamber and the envelope, respectively. The invention can be used as a standby combustion apparatus in temporary combustion of odour gases and waste gases.
