A fluorescent x-ray analyser is provided with both a large (7) and a small outer cover case (8) for providing a selectable small or large evacuation chamber for covering a respectively small or large sample (S2, S1). In use, a sample is placed on top of a base plate (6) and is irradiated from below by source (2), fluorescent x-rays from the sample are detected by the detector (3). For a small source to be analysed the inner cover case is attached to the inside of the outer cover case and the enclosure is evacuated by a vacuum pump (5) through air route (11), air route (12) is closed by a valve (13). For a larger source to be analysed, only the larger of the two cover cases is used and the chamber is evacuated through air route (12). |
