In a vehicle windscreen wiper control system an auto stop switch AS and an energisation retaining circuit 3 ensure that power to the motor M is maintained so that the wiper comes to rest at a desired position, no matter where in the cycle the on signal is terminated. The auto stop switch AS maintains the supply of power to the motor when the ON signal is terminated when the auto stop switch AS is in the drive position and the energisation retaining circuit maintains the supply of power if the ON signal is terminated with the auto stop switch AS in the brake position. Thus power to the motor is always terminated when the auto stop switch AS changes from the drive position to the braking position so that the degree of overrunning of the motor is fixed, irrespective of the time of termination of the ON signal.
