A method of melting treatment of radioactive solid wastes (16) using a cold crucible induction melting furnace (10) wherein, even when the wastes contain various kinds of substances such as metals in a mixed state, the separation of the metals from the wastes and the operation of disposing of the separated metals in to specific position in the furnace are not required, and the whole of the wastes can be melted efficiently and quickly. A hot plasma is injected from above the solid wastes charged into the furnace (10) towards the wastes to heat and melt a portion of the wastes initially and then a high-frequency current is supplied to a high-frequency coil surrounding the melting furnace (10) to induction-heat the wastes. The hot plasma may be used as an auxiliary heating source during the induction heating.

|
