The locking device comprises a seat part supported via a rail arrangement on the floor with floor-side guide rails and seat-side guide runnings rails movable longitudinally on floor-side rails. The running rails can be fixed in relation to the guide rails by a stop device integrated in a stop housing. The stop device is equipped with at least one stop tooth loadable in a stop direction by a lock spring and engaging in an aperture of a tooth row. The stop tooth by means of an unlocking lever activated by a manually operated stirrup lever can be moved out of its stop position. Within the unlocking mechanism (19,20,24) is arranged at least one spring member (30), the kinematic arrangement of which brings about during the unlocking process firstly a rising unlocking force and subsequently a further reducing of such force.
