PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method, by which activated carbon from which a polarizable electrode having a large electrode density can be formed and which does not deteriorate the capacitance of a capacitor using the carbon, even when the capacitor is repeatedly charged and discharged can be manufactured. SOLUTION: A carbide obtained by baking an easily graphitizable organic matter is subjected to a first alkali reactivating treatment performed within a first temperature range, and a second alkali reactivating treatment which is performed at a temperature higher than that of the first treatment within a second temperature range. The two kinds treatment are performed continuously in such a way that, after one kind of treatment is completed, another kind of treatment is performed. The easily graphitizable organic matter is composed of a vinyl chloride-based resin, and baking of the organic matter is performed by heating the material to a temperature of <700 deg.C from a room temperature. The first alkali reactivating treatment is performed by maintaining the temperature of the organic matter with the range of 600-950 deg.C for 1-20 hours, and the second treatment is performed within the temperature range of 800-1,000 deg.C. During the course of the second treatment, the temperature is dropped immediately after the temperature is raised to the range or the temperature is maintained within the temperature range for <=2 hours. |
