1,206,888. Expansion joints. REDERIAKTIEBOLAGET NORDSTJERNAN. 6 Dec., 1968 [6 Dec., 1967], No. 58038/68. Heading F2G. A joint between two elements having an intermediate sealing means 4, one of the elements 1 consisting of fragile material, e.g. quartz, and having an outwardly directed flange 2, the crosssection of which increases in the direction towards the sealiing means so as to present an inclined external surface, comprises a coupling member 5 disposed in spaced relationship to the elements, at least one fastening member 6 between the member 5 and the other element, and at least one pressure and support assembly between the coupling member and the element 1. The assembly has an abutment surface to the flange 2 corresponding in shape to and in contact with the inclined surface of the flange 2, and a clamping member 10 provided on the member 5 holds the pressure and support assembly in pressure contact with the flange; the shape and expansion coefficients of the members comprised in the joint are so adjusted in relation to each other that during variations in temperature the pressure and support assembly remain essentially static in relation to the surface of the flange 2 and the contact pressure and the sealing pressure are maintained substantially constant. As shown, links 8 supported by the member 5 are abutted by a peripheral bead 12 on the member 10, these two members being connected by screws 9 and, to the flange 3 on a steel pipe, by screws 6. In a modification, the links are replaced by tongues formed integrally with the member 5. |
