METHOD FOR SETTING VIRTUAL CHANNEL FOR SUBSCRIBER LINE SIGNAL BETWEEN ATM EXCHANGE AND ATM LINE CONCENTRATOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize a virtual path identifier(VPI) and a virtual channel identifier(VCI) by setting a signal virtual channel(VC) for a control(C) plane in a line connecting the ATM line concentrator and the ATM exchange through the dynamic designation of the VPI and the VCI between the ATM exchange and the ATM line concentrator. SOLUTION: When an operation system 8 instructs VC setting to an ATM exchange 2 (step 31), the ATM exchange 2 retrieves VPI/VCI idle/occupied state management tables 21, 22 of the ATM exchange 2 and the ATM line concentrator 1 in the inside of the ATM exchange 2 to extract an idle VPI (=3)/VCI (=2) thereby discriminating whether or not it is available (steps 32-34). When it is available, it is decided for the VPI/VCI for a subscriber line signal use VC (step 35) and informs it to the ATM line concentrator 1 via a management(M) channel (step 36).
