PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the shape of a back-up roll by forming a bearing as a sliding bearing, a ball bearing, or a roller bearing having a spherical peripheral face. SOLUTION: Both end sections of the carrying axis 4 of a chilled roll 5 are stored in carrying pieces 2, 3 vertically slidable in the window 1a of the housing 1 of a roll stand. The chilled roll 5 is mounted on an upper work roll 7, and a lower work roll 8 is mounted on a lower chilled roll 6. Both work rolls 7, 8 are bearing-supported in chocks 7a, 8a respectively and are driven via connecting mechanisms 9, 12. A strip W to be rolled is inserted between both work rolls 7, 8. The jacket 5a of the chilled roll 5 is supported on the carrying axis 4 by bearings 10, 11 having two spherical peripheral faces. The central interval (d) between the bearings 10, 11 is selected to a size smaller than the width B of the strip W. |
