PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen curving which occurs at the time of sintering, by forming a ferrule blank molding into a cylindrical shape having an insertion hole for optical fiber and projectingly arranging an engaging part for hanging at its one end. SOLUTION: The ferrule blank molding 21 is formed by integrally molding a main body part 22 having the substantially cylindrical shape and the engaging part 23 projectingly arranged at its one end. The engaging part 23 is formed to a disk shape having the outside diameter larger than the outside diameter of the main body part 22 and is formed with a recessed part 24 at its end face. The insertion hole 25 for the optical fiber is opened along the longitudinal direction in the central part of the ferrule blank molding 21. The opening on the engaging part 23 side of the insertion hole 25 is formed as a tapered part 26 of the diameter gradually increasing to a tapered shape to facilitate the insertion of the optical fiber. The ferrule blank molding 21 is sintered to a sintered compact in the state of hanging the same by using the engaging part 23. Since the ferrule blank molding is sintered by hanging the same, the bending at the time of sintering may be lessened. The engaging part 23 is thereafter removed and the sintered compact is subjected to required polishing to obtain the ferrule. |
