PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flexibly change the number of display picture elements of picture data after gradation is converted by operating the even number of picture element data of second picture data from picture element data in a block where either lateral direction or vertical direction in first picture data is constituted of the non-even number of picture elements. SOLUTION: Picture data constituted of binary picture element data is resolved into picture data of 4.5 picture elements and two gradations with the block of three picture elements in the lateral direction and 1.5 picture elements in the vertical direction. Gradation conversion is executed at every block. The number of black picture elements in the respective blocks becomes 1.5-2.5 and it can be calculated at the interval of 0.5. Thus, picture element data after gradation conversion are expressed by 10 gradations for one picture element. At the time of compressing picture data, the number of the picture elements after compression is changed to an arbitrary value and flexible correspondence to the number of the display possible picture elements in a picture display device is executed. Thus, the picture with high picture quality and less picture quality deterioration is obtained. |
