MANUFACTURE OF SIDE CORE TYPE MAGNETIC HEAD SLIDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a side core type magnetic head slider with good yield and high working accuracy by joining a core bonded bar consisting of a series of more than one core to a housing stick and microprocessing and separating them into individual sliders. SOLUTION: A coil winding groove is engraved in a facing surface of a substrate, and an apex 22 is formed to be a reference for a read/write gap in the depthwise direction. An iron metal thin film and a glass film are both formed on the read/write gap to generate a strong magnetic yield. The facing surfaces are butted against each other and joined up. The core bonded bar is processed. A housing 8 is joined with the core bonded bar. After working a tapered groove, cutting work is performed for the purpose of cutting the sliders in the widthwise direction to form a stick-like housing. Rail surfaces 14 are ground on the surface of the housing so as to make a track width 24 and a throat height 26 constant in dimensions.
