PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regularly perform a satisfactory transfer having no reduction in image density in stable state regardless of the difference in moisture absorbing state or kind of transfer material by carrying a constant current to a conductive transfer brush, and changing the contact quantity of the conductive transfer brush by a contact quantity varying means to regulate the effective transfer electric field. SOLUTION: Each conductive transfer brush 6k, 6y, 6m, 6c (hereinafter referred to as 6) is independently mounted on a contact quantity varying means 30k, 30y, 30m, 30c (hereinafter referred to as 30) for changing the contact quantity with a transfer belt 10. On condition that a constant transfer current is carried to the conductive transfer brush 6, the contact quantity of the conductive transfer brush 6 with an endless carrier is changed by the contact quantity varying means 30 according to water content of transfer material, kind of transfer material, and environmental state to regulate the effective transfer electric field. Therefore, a satisfactory transfer can be stably performed with a simple structure regardless of difference in moisture absorbing state or kind of transfer material. |
