The present invention relates to a continuously-operating, press suitable for producing compressed flat products from suitable material. The press comprises flexible endless metal bands, separated by an adjustable press gap, serving to transmit pressing force to the material and to pull the material through the press gap, the bands being directed by means of drive rollers and deflection rollers about a press bed and a press top and supported via roller rods running in the same direction as said bands against the press bed and the press top. The axes of the roller rods are oriented transversely relative to the direction of movement of the bands, and the roller rods are fed orthogonally relative to the longitudinal median of the press into the press gap by means of roller chains and by means of feed devices located in the entry zone of the press gap. A flexible clamping device is arranged in the entry zone which exerts continually increasing pressure upon the roller rods as the rods enter the press gap. In this way, the rods can be kept in their proper orientation by frictional means without relying solely on the roller chains. Rapid wear of the roller chains and other elements can thereby be avoided.
