PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store a water-containing material such as a fresh food, a processed food, plant seeds or a medical supply without rotting the water-containing material by dissolving carbon dioxide, an inert gas or their mixture in the water-containing material and subsequently storing the material at a temperature below the freezing point of water in the gas-dissolved state without freezing the water-containing material. SOLUTION: This method for storing a water-containing material in a non-frozen state comprises charging the water-containing material 12 preliminarily cooled to a temperature near to 0 deg.C into a pressure-resistant closed container 11, sealing a gas 13 comprising pressured CO2 gas, an inert gas or their mixture in the container to dissolve a necessary amount of the gas in the water contained in the charged water- containing material 12, transferring the gas-sealed pressure-resistant closed container 11 into a freezer 14, and subsequently storing the material in the gas-dissolved state at a temperature below the freezing point of water in a non-frozen state. Thus, water- containing materials, e.g. fresh foods such as vegetables, fruits, fishes or meats; processed foods such as bean curds or fried eggs; plant seeds; organs for transplantation, blood for transfusion, and sperm or ovum for artificial insemination in a medical field can be stored for long periods without rotting the materials. |
