The present invention describes use of compounds of formula I: wherein double linkage C=C is in configuration E or else Z, variables have following meanings: R1 represents COOR5, COR5, CONR5R6, CN, O=S(-R5)=O, O=S(-OR5)=O, R7O-P(-OR8)=O; R2 represents COOR6, COR6, CONR5R6, CN, O=S(-R6)=O, O=S(-OR6)=O, R7O-P(-OR8)=O; Re represents hydrogen, an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, or else aromatic radical, eventually substituted with up to 18 carbon atoms; R4 represents an aromatic or else heteroaromatic radical substituted with from 5 to 12 ring atoms; R5 bis R8 independently from one another represent hydrogen, an open or else branched-chain cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aliphatic radical, or else an aromatic radical eventually substituted with up to 18 carbon atoms, wherein variables R3 to R8, each time together with carbon atoms in which they are attached, can form together a ring with 5 to 6 atoms, which eventually can has additional rings, as filters against UV radiation in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations, for human skin or else human hair protection against solar radiation, alone or else together with known pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations, in compounds which absorb rays within UV radiation range.
