The module comprises a tubular diffusor that is sealed at one end by a cap (6) and has a gas generator (3) set into it at the other end which is open. The airbag (5) has a cover (9) which almost completely surrounds the diffusor. The cover has a lateral insert opening (28) along the length of the diffusor axis. The diffusor cap is covered by a side section (35) of the cover.
