Light conductor illumination method

The illumination method provides uniform illumination along a light conductor of given length by dividing the light conductor into a number of partial lengths (30), each of which has a number of light input optical fibre bundles (44), with their light output ends randomly distributed along the partial length. A number of randomly distributed partial lengths may be contained within a housing adjacent one another, with a number of light sources respectively associated with the inputs of each of the partial lengths.
