A DUST SEPARATOR

A dust separator for a vacuum cleaner (1-6), in which the bag (8) is sealingly connected to a rigid member (7) that screens-off an air-flow passageway (1) through the vacuum cleaner and has an opening (71) with which the bag (81) connects. The screening member (7) is separate from the bag (8, 81). Mounted at the orifice of the bag (8, 81) is a flange (83) which functions to prevent the bag (8) from being drawn through the opening (71) in the screening member in the direction of air flow through the vacuum cleaner. The flange (83) can be collapsed (86, 89) to enable it to be passed through the opening (71) in the screening member (7) when the bag is full.
