Brake system control method for vehicle with at least one trailer

The pressure levels which are required to apply and release the brakes of the trailer are determined by monitoring the balance of the combined unit during braking. The monitoring is performed during even braking and the system takes into account the braking effect of a retarder. One of the vehicles has an electronic control for its brakes while the other is controlled by brake pressure levels. The control system measures both the pressures required to apply the brakes and to release them. No additional sensors are required and the braking is matched to the total weight of the combination.
