The tool has a vertically moving compass saw blade. The drive motor (1) is positioned vertically above a base plate (4), so that its central line is offset and parallel to the central line of the lifting rod (8), and displaced upwards away from the base plate. Due to this, the hand grip (13) with switch (11) and switch knob (12), and with associated finger space (14) between drive motor, lifting rod, and base plate, is located close to the saw blade (10). The hand grip is positioned at an angle relative to the base plate, so that the force of the hand (15) normally transmitted to the grip is directed approx. to the point, where the blade passes through the base plate.
