The conveyors lead to scrap baling presses. The cars (10) rest on islands (2) with resting surfaces (14), dismantling locations (3-5) and mechanical handling units (6). A common scrap press (13) may be centrally placed between four islands. Each mechanical handling unit has a telescopic arm (8) which can turn the vehicle body over. Each arm rotates about its own central pivot, and may extend radially from it. Cars may be moved as required from a parking station arranged for convenient access.
