An air purification method having the steps of absorbing nitrogen oxides in the air into an absorption liquid, and then bringing the resultant absorption liquid into contact with photosynthesized organisms, such as algae in the presence of light so as to fix the nitrogen oxide in the absorption liquid to the photosynthesized organisms, characterized in that at least a part of nitrogen monoxide in the air which has not yet been brought into contact with the absorption liquid is oxidized into nitrogen dioxide. When the nitrogen monoxide which is not substantially absorbed as it is into the absorption liquid is oxidized into nitrogen dioxide, it comes to be absorbed into the absorption liquid, and a nitrogen oxides removing rate can be heightened.
